 António Macedo is a Portuguese realist painter living in Oporto. He works primarily in oils. His main themes have often been the female form and still life; recent work has included street scenes. He is well known as a portrait artist in his native Portugal. António Macedo attended the Escola Superior de Belas Artes (Further School of Fine Arts) in Oporto between 1973–1974 In 1986 he received a BSc in Chemistry from the Open  In 1975 he moved to London and soon became technical consultant for the Pantiles Gallery in Tunbridge Wells. His work was originally promoted by John Whitley Ltd in London; then, from 1984, by the W. H. Patterson Gallery in Albemarle Street, Picadilly. He produced his first sculpture works in 1986. From 1987 his art was promoted world wide by the Christopher Wood Gallery in Belgravia. Also in 1987 he was included in Dr Fernando Pamplona's 'Dictionary of Portuguese Painters and Sculptors', and became a member of the (British) National Fine Arts Society. In 1989 he won first prize at the exhibition of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He returned to Portugal in 1990, and he has been promoted by Galeria Cordeiros in Oporto since 1997. He received a Mention of honour at the Bienal Of Placência (Spain) in 1999.
