Andrew Talbot

Artist Andrew Talbot
North of England, 1972

Andrew studied at a local art college and then completed a degree in Fine Art at Loughborough College of Art. After graduation he set up his own studio in an old stable on his farm and began to undertake a range of commercial art and design work. He has been painting professionally since 2004 and describes it as a ‘real joy and privilege to make a living out of something I truly love to do.’  Andrew Talbot has ‘a passion for paint and an obsession with light’. ‘All of my paintings, I hope, are tied together by my continued passion for the effect of light has on a subject.’ ‘I strive to depict the beauty and reality of everyday objects, people and those special places we know. My aim is to depict subjects which people want to reach out and grab or to step inside and feel the sunlight on their face. It is the goal of trying to master this reality with a brush and a dozen or so oil pigments, that is the challenge of painting to me.’  The techniques, materials and compositions used in Andrew Talbot’s work owe a debt to the classic schools of the past but materials, subjects and places are seen with an eye on the present and are timeless. He painstakingly builds up layers of paint, working with the natural translucent characteristics of the oil, giving his art work a light and a luminescence of its own. Detail is then added, when the luminosity and mood have been captured, adding the final layer of realism to each piece.  Andrew Talbot art work is now in many private and public art collections worldwide. In addition to Red Rag Modern Art Gallery Andrew Talbot has exhibited at other leading British Art Galleries and won numerous awards. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Andrew Talbot artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish art and Modern art it can be shipped worldwide.
